Youth Action is a program designed to change physical activity options for Young People by engaging and giving voice to the target audience. That is, Youth take Action for developing evidence based strategies to address barriers at the personal, social and environmental levels. In partnership with schools, community groups, researchers and local government, the voice of young people will be used to identify and address issues that they feel important, within the context of their communities. The Youth Action curriculum project is supported by the Pratt Foundation and DEECD. The project engages the Dandenong cluster of schools with Keysborough Secondary College acting as an initial pilot; Monash researchers are evaluating the project and Sports Without Borders are making key links between the stakeholders.

Municipal Association of Victoria - Hume and Moonee Valley Council Projects

SWB has initiated major projects in the City of Hume and City of Moonee Valley with grants from the Victorian Government through the provision of a Victorian Community Support Grant from the Community Support Fund and the Scanlon Foundation. This work has focused on the provision of direct grants to young refugees and newly arrived migrants within these two municipalities.

Youth Action

Youth Action is an ambitious plan to take Australia’s school kids (for the first time) through an organized sports ability testing process in an effort to gain an accurate and timely snapshot of the health of our young. For our nation, this hugely relevant data from a massive sample group will enable better, targeted future planning. For every individual, the process will identify their strongest points and suggest the types of sporting activities they may wish to pursue.
